My Favorite Monday

And so ends I.S. Monday. For those of you who don't know, it's the celebratory day at Wooster when seniors are allowed to go wild, after they've turned in their required thesis, of course. I'll add a few representative pictures here, the rest are available at my Webshots site. http://community.webshots.com/user/pologrrlwoo

My lovely girls. From Day 1 to I.S. Monday, they've been by my side. I love them sooo much. Even though we look pretty rediculous in these get-ups.

That's me #255 baby.

Many pictures were taken. This is Lindsay and some of the "Penthouse Girls."

Me and Mary Kate, a fellow CSD major, and an original member of West Side Compton. In another situation, I think we could have been really, really close.

This is Hai Dang. He's Vietnamese and he's dancing to bagpipers. How cool is my school.

You have to bear with me for a moment...

Okay. You are just going to have to listen to me ramble for a few minutes. I have a lot of things going on right now and I think writing through them might help me think about them more reasonably.
I have been accepted at the University of Pittsburgh for their Doctor of Audiology program. (yay!) But, their tuition will be $33,000 a year and it will take 5 years (boo!). My gut instinct, though, is to go to Pitt over Akron (my other option). Pitt is a top ranked program and while Akron is good too, it has some major drawbacks.
First, the positives at Pitt: because of its status as a top program, the professors are the best in everything they do. Catherine Palmer, one of the profs, is pretty much a celebrity in the field. The hospitals in Pittsburgh are also the best. (Plus, I just love the city.) And, just today, I began to seriously consider getting a PhD with certification instead of an AuD. This would provide more funding opportunities for me and my advisor thinks I'm the PhD "type." She thinks that I'd be really successful because I have an internal locus of control (which is really ironic, considering my senior IS topic). This means I set high standards for myself and that I am able to keep multiple "balls in the air" while doing everything else too. I was glad to hear this, because I have been really down on myself lately, due to stress of course. The students that I have talked to from Pitt have been overwhelming positive and helpful.
Now, Akron. I have not been officially accepted there, but if I got into Pitt then I think I can assume I got into Akron. Akron’s only pluses, really, are that I would make it through in 4 years with much less debt. If I went to Akron, too, I might have a roommate in Mary Kate and I would maybe have the opportunity to work with Dr. Goldberg again. But, from what I’ve learned about Akron, based on my advisor’s candid thoughts, I haven’t liked it. She described Akron as an “Also ran.” Meaning, it finished the race but was never really a contender.

I may add to this post later.

Also, my advisor thinks I should submit my I.S. for publication. What the heck?! Where did that come from???
